Phoenix Jacob Devrilochek
Name: Phoenix (Not Nick, Phen, or Feeney) Jacob (NOT Jake and NOT Jakey) Devrilochek (NOT!!! Devvy). Sir Devrilochek or Sir Jacob.
Age: 27
Origin: Sachell, Arunafeltz
Job&Build: Recently acquired Star Guardian to the Water Oracle. INT/DEX/AGI
Weapon Type: Basic Hand-to-Hand; primarily works with the bo staff due to farming roots.
Looks&PB: Miles Edgeworth (Mitsurugi Reiji) from Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney.
Phoenix Jacob Devrilochek always looks put together; on the crest of the latest fashion trends, his skin is flawlessly taken care of and one can imagine the beauty regimen both at night and in the morning. However, deep cuts do scar on his personage as he refuses to see a healer - and so on occasion when inspecting his personage, one might find a strange scratch that perhaps shouldn't have scarred. His hair is kept neat but with a few stylish touches; his teeth are kept flawlessly white. He abhors all nasty habits.
Background: Jacob (as Phoenix is intolerable) relished his chance to train as a guardian and threw his heart and soul into it - occuring a year after the unfortunately traumatising birth of his younger brother Cody [sic: see other under special] (who to this day he adores immensely, as the funny, I love-my-big-brother he-can-loosen-up-around me relief type) he was reaching the age of consciousness about the limitations that any of the '-chells' could place on an individual of their location. Luckily not a Dirt Child of Winchell, he still found on his training trips into Rahell each day a pronounced deference to his more provincial speech and a certain assumption that perhaps he stunk, farmed, or did something unsavory at home. The truth was he did farm at home; his family raised livestock for Rahell's ravenous stomachs, part of the eternal system of eat - and - keep - eating that the capitol city held to its heart. During the nights he did milking, farming, and other hard labor, during the days he trained to be a guardian, heart-set when his self-taught pretentious speech would come in handy.
After all, Phoenix at home, Jacob in Rahell, had started becoming a different person. Under the education and forced formulae of training he'd split off whatever child was in him and ironed it out into an unrecognizable mask of snobbishness. He pretended to have read the latest articles, kept up to date on the latest fashion, and began to grow obstinate about wading in the mud or otherwise, and made sure to keep a steady relationship going in the big city. He learned Rahell's neutral accent and slang, and fancied himself a regular up-and-comer - except for his older sister Yvonne, who constantly called him on his new haircuts, his cleaner teeth, the supreme vanity that the capitol instilled in young boys who wanted to avoid sinister behavior.
Older brother Mikhael, older by a year, kept his distance - and finally left home to live with their father Henry, since divorced from his mother. This happened at 10 - the same point when the new persona began covering Phoenix - and of course HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. :')
Though one might imagine this persona... being... "inauthentic"? It in fact really wasn't - put on young enough and fast enough and having previously hated his provinciality, it fit in with his already stubborn and obstinate personality, setting him up to be this individual. However, he couldn't change his monolingual fire - and so will occasionally take to pretending to know Feltzen, as it's no longer spoken, and provides him with decent cover.
His mother took in her lover the next year and though whispers of her adultery roamed strong across their town, their position as one of the top farmers was never questioned. Yvonne came of age and chose to stay on the farm; and even Cody seemed heading that way, despite Phoenix's ambitions and his increasing need to force Cody to recognise his true self-worth. The constant arguments ended in a large blow-out between the two brothers when Cody was thirteen and Phoenix seventeen - Phoenix left home, choosing to finish life as Jacob, and Cody remained at the farm, feeling slighted and disapproved.
In the city Jacob found a much finer home for himself, a place where he felt like he belonged and could be one with not only the high-vanity, high-fashion world, but also, with his current fling-soon-to-be-oops-I-married-you? wife, Dolores. What was a fling became a courtship; what was a courtship an engagement; and Jacob, still not selected to be a guardian at twenty-six, finally tied the knot with his beau of nine years.
At the wedding (a large, fancy affair) brought the two brothers together - in a bold move of Freya-I-Miss-You:< glory, Jacob invited Cody to be his Best Man and Cody accepted.
When the relationship fell apart three months later after Cody, having come to live with them, was found in Dolores' bed, Jacob didn't blame Cody. Instead, he got a divorce without telling anyone the reason why - merely, "I don't love her anymore," and disappeared to the family complex back in Sachell. "Ruined" according to his own standards, it was with chagrin that he found himself chosen as the Star Guardian shortly thereafter.
Personality
Keywords: Self-absorbed, cold, distant, elitist, pretentious, pompous, vain, secretive.
In-Depth: He really finds nothing wrong with his personality, though others might find serious flaws. Jacob isn't judgmental despite it all - he merely calculates his conclusions. However, once he reaches a conclusion he is so fitfully stubborn he won't move beyond it - leaving a dead-end for any he chooses to dislike unless they have the name Devrilochek. A product of the need to conform, he will seemlessly fit himself into any environment but at the same time make sure he's recognised as either a difficult, elitist, or desirable member of each group; wanting to be the top of that group, admired, vainly desiring attention, but at the same time on occasion understanding more attention comes from discontent than from admiration. He will flirt with women he finds attractive so long as they return the flirting, and doesn't find sex or romance or anything of the sort difficult - though tedious, perhaps. His desire to be "more" has been fulfilled with becoming a guardian, but soon will manifest itself into a need to be the "best guardian" and so he will subtely challenge those about him. Using vocabulary that is totally unnecessary and feigning that he knows everything, Jacob can be a frustrating foe - he's just smart enough to be able to feign it well, and he's got nothing against lying to get his way.
Specifics
Likes: A good T-bone, classical music, alone time, no one (but Devrilocheks who are not my sister)
Dislikes: Everyone (but Devrilochecks who are not my sister), Nicknames, unprofessional attitudes, plain women
Marital Status: Divorced
Family: Eleanna Mia Devrilochek (Mother), Maya Yvonne Devrilochek (Mother), Henry Denmark (Father; estranged), Yvonne Eleanna Devrilochek (Older Sister; Estranged), Mikhael Egad Devrilochek (Older Brother), Cody William Devrilochek (Younger Brother)
Occupation: Guardian, formerly worked around the home after his divorce and before being selected.
Home: The Cathedral.
Language Proficiency: Basic, but he will pretend he's much more well-read than that.
Other: Phoenix actually is afraid of Healers - once, when he was a little kid, he ran into the room after his first mother, Maya, had given birth to Cody and thought the healer was hurting her. After a thorough assbeating from his violent older sister, he thinks of healers as sneaky suns-a-bitches out to get theirs. He does have a tattoo - hidden on his lower back, he got it drunk on the new year with his ex-wife. It's, heh, a Phoenix.
